This post can actually end within one paragraph if I tell you that it only needs to follow certain steps in order to make money using Amazon affiliate program. All you have to do is sign up with Amazon Associates, decide which products to promote, head over to your site, slap some ads and voila, people will come and flood your site in droves and you can retire off that income within 6 months!
Sorry to disappoint you but that’s so not happening, buddy!
If it were that easy, I would be probably retired a few years ago. So when I tell you that making money using Amazon is no easy work (but certainly easier than other methods), then you should believe me.
So now lets’ talk about how you can actually make money using Amazon Affiliate Program!
Requirements to make money using Amazon affiliate program
Just like with any type of way to making money online, you need to have a few things ready in mind before going ahead with the below steps. I’m mentioning these requirements in brief below and I’m assuming you’re already familiar with these concepts.
- Choose your Niche (product based).
- Do proper Keyword Research while choosing your niche.
- Go to Amazon and see if there are enough popular products to promote in your niche.
Step 1 – The 1st step to making money with Amazon is to have your own site. Long gone these days when you could make money by posting Amazon affiliate links on sites like Blogger or Hubpages. If you want to make some serious cash with Amazon, then having your own domain name is an absolute must! Just to make you understand how important this is, let me say it once again. Having your own domain is an absolute must!
I’m not going to go into a tutorial on how to register a domain. You can find plenty of useful links by using Google. What I’m going to do is tell you where to register your domain name from!
I own several domains and have bought them either by using Godaddy or 1&1. A lot of people don’t like Godaddy but I’ve not had any problem with them at all. However, 1&1 offers free WHOIS protection, so if that’s something you’re interested in, then register your domains with 1&1.
Step 2 – The 2nd step is to use a good hosting service. I using Hostgator and that’s what I recommend to everyone. When I started off as a newbie, I made several mistakes while pointing my domains and the service team at Hostgator was extremely kind enough to help me out at each step.
Do remember to sign up for the Baby Croc package (Here you can get first month hosting for $0.01 use coupon code IOPS994OFF). It allows you to host several domains within one account and you don’t need to buy a new hosting package for every new domain.
I’m not going to go to the technical details of pointing your domain to your hosting account and setting up a website. There are plenty of resources out there that will explain this to you better than if I tried. One advice I’d like to give is that try and build your site using WordPress. It’s absolutely user friendly and search engines love the clean coding (great for SEO).
Step 3 – And then you need to sign up for the Amazon Associates Affiliate Program. I won’t go into the details again because it’s very easy to sign up, pretty much same like any other affiliate program.
Just remember, you need to have a web address (which you created in the 1st step) in order to register for the Amazon Associates Affiliate Program.
Step 4 – The next step to start making money with Amazon is to choose the products you’re going to promote in your niche. I touched upon this briefly during the requirements phase but here is when you’ve got to choose those products really carefully.
As a general rule, try and promote products that priced at over $150 (plus or minus a few) and have at least 5 positive user reviews with a good rating! A lot of people tend to ignore this but remember, there’s nothing more reassuring to a prospective buyer than to hear positive things from people who’ve already bought that product (See Example Product Here). Amazon is great in this respect that it display’s user ratings and reviews so use this to your advantage.
Choose at least 5 -10 products keeping the above points in mind.
Step 5 – Add content to your site. This could be detailed product reviews (1000+ words, they convert really well) or informative articles (500+ words) but add at least 10 – 15 articles to your site and add your affiliate links in proper places (images, text).
Then it’s time for back linking and promotion. Use whatever suits you best but try using a mix of social media, article submission and the likes. Remember if you add useful content to your site, people will start linking naturally to your site with time.
Do this diligently, give it a time, be patience, you’ll slowly see money coming in. Remember, it’s not a get-rich quick scheme and you need to work at this.
I’ve only giving a brief outline here of this best method (in my opinion) to make money selling Amazon products as an affiliate. Also, with time, you’ll learn what works best for your niche site but in case you’re in hurry and like to learn this method in depth, then I highly suggest that you get the Amazon Treasure Chest by Colleen Slater (aff link). The proven step-by-step system that shows you exactly how to build profitable Amazon affiliate sites. You’re about to get the chance to peer over the shoulder of a top affiliate marketer as she reveals how she makes a legitimate, full-time income by creating Amazon review sites.
I rarely promote products but the Amazon Treasure Chest is one of the best guides out there to make money using Amazon Affiliate Program. I learned all the tricks from there and highly recommend it to you.
